He Wrote Her Name in the Snow – Bastogne, 1944
During the freezing Battle of the Bulge, a wounded American soldier was found curled behind a destroyed tank, bleeding and frostbitten. In the snow beside him, carved shakily with a bayonet, was the name: “Emily.”
Medics saved him. When asked about the name, he whispered, “My girl. I thought if I died with her name near, maybe someone would tell her I didn’t forget.” He later married Emily. They named their daughter Hope.
