David Hockney



✍️ This series of etchings by David Hockney shows love in touching intimacy. ❤️ 🏳️‍🌈
They were made to illustrate the erotic poems of Greek-Egyptian writer C. P. Cavafy. Hockney greatly admired Cavafy’s ability to write openly and unapologetically about gay relationships.
Many of Hockney’s illustrations are based on intimate sketches of his friends, others were drawn from photographs. The backgrounds are based on a trip Hockney took to Beirut, Lebanon in 1966. The artist felt that Beirut’s cosmopolitan atmosphere made it the contemporary equivalent of Cavafy’s native Alexandria, Egypt.
Currently the etchings are on show at Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, France, in their exhibition, Evolution of the Idea of Intimacy. 💜

 Roberto Sebastián Antonio Matta Echaurren (Spanish pronunciation: [roˈβeɾto ˈmata]; November 11, 1911 – November 23, 2002), better known as Roberto Matta, was one of Chile's best-known painters and a seminal figure in 20th century abstract expressionist and surrealist art.
